Why we age differently today than our parents did
14 March 2026

Thirty years ago, turning fifty or sixty was seen very differently than it is today. For many people it was the moment life began to slow down and the body no longer kept up the way it used to.
Today the picture is different. More and more often we meet people in their fifties and beyond who play sport, travel or start new projects.
It isn’t only a change of lifestyle. Above all, our approach to health has changed.
Health is no longer just about treatment
Ageing is no longer seen as an inevitable, gradual decline. A growing number of people understand it as a stage of life in which it makes sense to actively work on fitness, strength and mental wellbeing.
Science and technology play a large part in this too. What used to be available only to elite athletes or rehabilitation clinics is gradually reaching everyday life.
Modern diagnostics, new recovery methods and technologies working with the muscles and the musculoskeletal system help people keep their bodies in good condition well into later age.
Three pillars of healthy ageing
Healthy ageing isn’t a matter of one miracle solution. It is the interplay of several fundamental factors.
The first is movement. The human body is built to move. Muscle mass and physical performance naturally decline with age, but regular activity can slow that process down considerably.
The second important factor is recovery. Rest and regeneration matter to the body just as much as performance itself.
The third pillar is prevention. People used to deal with health only once problems appeared. Today the conversation increasingly focuses on how to prevent those problems in the first place.
Regular care for the body can keep you in shape far longer than most people realise.
Active longevity as a new approach
The shift in how we approach health is plain to see. People no longer wait for a problem to appear. A growing number of them look after their body continuously.
Perhaps that is why the term active longevity is heard more and more often.
It isn’t just about living longer. It’s about living longer in good condition.
Healthy ageing is not a matter of luck.
It is the sum of everyday decisions.
We’re developing the Physio Zone to bring together aids for everyday movement, home exercise equipment and rehabilitation technology.
